Yes Erich, it is factory mod - costs just over GBP200 I think - havn't
had the invoice yet - tho I have bought mine without Ampreg. Basically
what you do is cut a 5 inch hole below and towards the rear of the
tailplan. This allows access to the box section between the rear
bulkhead and the sternpost. This area is reinforced and also a mounting
point for a tailwheel arm is built up on the fuselage floor. It's not as
difficult as it sounds though. The new tailwheel is effectively
positioned further aft - under the rudder. The old tailwheel is unbolted
and the Redux softened with a heat gun - you can then hang the old
tailwheel on the wall. The bottom tip of the rudder is modified to take
a horn and the rudder cables lead to this, with springs from the horn to
the wheel - more or less like a conventional tailwheel aircraft. Havn't
quite finished it yet - probably won't now until January with having
travelling/holidays. If you havn't built your fuselage yet it is very
easy - if you have and you are working on an airfield in a cold hangar,
it will take about four days. Ground handling should be much improved -
deck angle reduced and forward vis improved.
