Coms can be a real b****r
My usual approach is to try an get a working system then substitute back
the original parts piece by piece. For example if you were able to borrow a
microlight complete system perhaps a pair of Lynx headsets, integral
intercom and an Icom hand held. You might be able to connect this lot to
your antenna (easy if it is terminated with a BNC connector) and that
should work if it worked in the microlight, if not your antenna is probably
down. If it does work you have at least eliminated your antenna.
