Hi Brian,

Sorry to have taken a while to reply to your letter but it has taken a
little time to get an answer from a reliable source. I copy you a
portion of a reply I received from Andy Draper who was part of the
design and development team of the Europa Aircraft.

Andy says,

I don't know why it was not incorporated into the manual but I expect it
was simply due to too much going on at the time. On the positive side,
it's not structural, but was intended to isolate the nose gear assembly
within the fuselage from components within the tunnel space. Service
experience over the last 20 odd years from those examples without it
would suggest that it's not a detriment not to have it fitted.

Best regards

Andy

Also best regards from me

Pete Jeffers

Thanks very much, Will, much appreciated. A removable bulkhead, that
sounds like a really good idea, will do that.

since no one else has answered I will attempt to explain.

The bulkhead referred to in the build manual goes in the cockpit module
tunnel. When i built mine I got the "word" from the forum that this was
the thing to do. There are no obvious locating points or hard points.

I cut the bulkhead and adjusted it to fit the tunnel. In my case
lacking the instruction I made the bulkhead in a single piece. I then
covered the edges of the bulkhead in plastic and masking taped the
bulkhead in place. I put 4 ply bid tapes on the top and both sides to
form 2" right angle brackets in the join between the bulkhead and
cockpit module. Once cured I drilled 3/16 holes through both and bolted
in place.

I was browsing the Europa club mod site, and stumbled across this
trigear cockpit module bulkhead install in the known corrections. I
can't find any reference to it in the build manual nor hints & tips
compilation, and the 3mm ply templates do not show the pieces there. I
can see there are existing stiffeners in the cockpit module I have, see
photos, but I do not know if these replace or support these bulkheads.
Does anyone know if these two bulkhead pieces are actually required and
do they need to be flox sandwiched into place?

Brian Phillips.
