Tony, I would be very careful with plating processes as the spring is very hard and the process could induce Hydrogen Embrittlement into the surface. The result of this could be cracking and breaking of the spring. If the spring is a decent spring steel it will have a hardness of at least 45HRC which would make it succeptible to cracking.
