You do not say what gauging system you have. From your description it
sounds like it might be a capacitance type. If so, assuming it is wired
correctly, the fault points towards the probe. Make sure there is no
short between the inner and outer tubes and confirm that no water has
found its way in. As you can adjust the gauge reading through the
calibration screws it is unlikely to be at fault. If this doesn't
identify the problem try borrowing another probe from someone who is
still building.
