Europa-List: Shoulder Harness - A Suggestion

Hi All,

How about fitting a 1" Dia tube, bent like an inverted and flattened "U",
over each headrest ( like a miniature Roll Over Bar ) , that pivots about
the front top edge of the seat back and on either side of the head rest?
The height would be such that the horizontal top of it was about 1" above
shoulder height. It would fold back to the horizontal to allow you to sit
on the headrest while getting in and out, as usual. It would then be
pivoted upright and the seatbelt placed over it before the seatbelt is
taken over the shoulders. This device would resist the compression
forces that would otherwise be taken by the spine in the event of an
accident.

Ideally it should be pivoted at the bottom of the seat back (i.e. at about
the same position that the spine pivots) but this would necessitate it
being much longer and have a lockable hinge, level with the top of the seat
back, to enable the top of it to pivot backwards, as above.

As the seatbelt is free to slide over the tube there should be no levering
effect leading to extra strain on the headrest seatbelt fixing.

Any comments ?
