Agree that common masking is completely inappropriate for paint lines.
Preferable to electrical tape I think is a 3M product sold by auto
body supply stores -- a plastic "fine line" tape in many widths down
to 1/8" in.  Is what pros use for fancy trim striping.

However, there is an excellent masking tape dubbed Easy Mask
"KleenEdge" -- no space for googling purposes -- and outstanding for
even household uses.  It doesn't dry out quickly sitting on the shelf
after opening the package, and it removes easy even after months.
It's actually adequate enough for doing the paint lines, but in the
U.S. I've seen it only at WalMart.
