Nigel,

If you have wap or gprs then try www.wapmx.com which will give you metars
and both short and long tafs. There are no charges for using the site other
than what your phone company charges you for the call/data.

In the previous edition of the Pilot magazine there was a news item about a
company providing TAFs and METARs via SMS messaging. This is very useful
when trying to obtain weather whilst away from normal services at small
airfields. I tried it out by using it to request the TAF for La Rochelle
whilst I was abroad in the USA and it worked great. Subsequently when I was
in France with my Europa I could not get it to work although we were able to
use the system using a friend's mobile. I assume that it must be something
to do with the fact we use different mobile phone system providers. Anyway
my problem is that, as I disposed of that copy of Pilot, I have no way of
getting back to the company having lost the website address. Does anyone
have last month's edition of Pilot and can check for the website details of
this company for me?

Thanks

Nigel Charles
