Hi! Tom
IMHO to have a trailer which is too light is quite likely to cause some
damage to the aircraft. (Depends what your roads are like but the last thing
you want is the trailer bouncing because the "tie downs" are just as likely
to
cause damage as the bounce .
I accept you don't need it to be as heavy as my double suspension linked
axled, covered trailer ( about 3 tonnes loaded!) but it certainly glides
over
the most horrible surfaces WITHOUT ANY WING OR STOWED TAILPLANE TIE DOWNS.
I've probably towed the aircraft about 3,000 miles to date with no adverse
effects.
Look at it on http://www.crix.org.uk
OK it could be constructed in aluminium and the cladding could be lighter
gauge material but my a/c is secure, weather, vandal, and fire proof.
Ok I use a 940 TD Volvo Estate and have been up to 80MPH but no one asks
any questions unless it's over a speed limit anywhere then I'll be for the
high jump! Suggest you up grade the tow vehicle .... put it down to
insurance.!
