Europa-List: trailers and intercoolers

Hi all;

It's been an interesting weekend. Lincoln Ragel was kind enough to show me one
of two open trailers that Sam built for the two of them. He also showed me Kim
Prout's aluminum trailer which was shipped from across the pond. I had brought
my welder with me and we took lots of photos and measurements. Sam built
these trailers some 4 years ago and the materials at that time cost him about
$1,300 per trailer with most parts coming out of the Northern equipment catalog.
Unfortunately, Sam did not make blueprints/drawings, etc so we'd have to
develop them as we go.

At this point I'm leaning towards buying a covered trailer rather than going
with
the open design. It's not much more money and I won't have to worry about
finding a garage to park the thing in. The only reason I was considering the
open design was due to the idea of single person rig/de-rigging. However
Lincoln
said even with a wing dolly this would be a very difficult endeavor. Does
anyone have a covered trailer I could see photos and/or sources of suppliers
of?

However my welder said he'd be willing to mock one up for someone else if they
want... contact me off line and I'll send you his email address if you want to
pursue it.

By the way, does anyone know if Europa has a patent on the trailer? Is there
any
possibility of them sharing the plans with those of us in the states?

On another note I searched the archives for intercooler articles and found 62
articles.
I waded through them all and found very little of use. I did find out
that it's untrue that Dennis Vories used a Nissan 300zx intercooler- it's too
long to fit in the cowling so the one he uses was custom made. This is heresay
but it came from a reliable source. Lincoln has a friend also trying to
build an intercooler for his plane. My plans are to piggy back on his efforts
or perhaps Karim will come up with a design shortly. Until then I'll move my
oil reservoir to the port side and run without the intercooler.
