If you want a good long term finish, an important tip from Neville is to
carefully sand down the wing edge of the fairing until it is maybe 1mm
proud of the wing surface then lay up a chord-wise lay up of BID 2" wide
spanning the joint on the top surface of the wing to prevent stress
cracks on the edge of the fairing arising from pressure on the wing
walkway. On top of all that I found it necessary to apply a fairly thick
layer of filler for a distance of 350mm onto the wing from the fairing
curve to provide enough material to sand down to get a smooth joint.
However each wing will be different and it depends how tightly you
managed to fit the fairing to the wing. Use a 400mm straight edge to
visualise the thickness of filler you need at the root end

Depends entirely on how pedantic you are! I used a 12" section of half
round rain guttering with a wooden handle fixed to the back and grit
paper stuck to the rounded side and IMHO did a good job! Not before I
fell asleep onto the wing a few times though! (But there again mine was
an MKI with the fairings provided by Graham Singleton.) Regards Bob H

I am trying to get a nice transition between the wing and the fairing at
the root on my XS wings. I have filler tapering out 250 mm but the
transition between the wing and the fairing is still obvious to the
touch. Am I chasing my tail here or is it possible to get this to be
fairly undetectable ?
