Boy, is this forum great or what ? Thanks Troy for the instant reply and advice
on the Jim Weir article; I have found it already. I probably overlooked it
since I didn't know what a diplexer is. I think I know now. "A panel mount
connector which automatically disconnects the inop radio and connects the
handheld directly to the antenna." Sounds like a good trick to me, Jim even
explains how you can check out the device with a patch cable to ensure that it
works OK before you feel the need to cut the main coax.

What I failed to mention in my first email was that the only device I could find
which seemed to do what I wanted was a CI 601 dual com coupler priced at $569 in
a Gulf Coast Avionics catalog. $2 seems like a good deal to me. BTW, the same
Kitplanes issue had an intriguing article on Do It Yourself ANR headset
conversion kits at $169.

Hope the project is progressing steadily. One heads up I can provide for your
engine wiring is to be particularly careful with the brass faston receptacles
which are supplied by Rotax on the alternator wiring to mate up with the
rectifier-regulator. I have been trying to find why my alterrnator was not
charging and found that one faston had come loose. These fastons are pushed into
a common plug block which is then plugged into the regulator. The fastons have
a
small barb which retains the faston in the plug body - just make sure the barb
is lifted sufficiently so that it will not disengage !!

Cheers, John
