ah, yes I agree - but if you use their "exclusive" filtering (from the
options tab I believe), it's quite easy to filter out all mail except from
addresses in your address book. Not a very practical option for general mail
use, but if the only purpose is for the Europa mail, it's perfect. Just let
through the Europa group postings and throw the rest in the trash. It's even
possible to have their server delete them before the end up in your mail
box.

Works for me.  I use my hotmail account for access to the MSN Chat utility,
a few yahoo groups, as well as for any site which requires an email address
to access their services. I throw all mail from folks I don't know into my
junk mail folder which gets deleted automagically by the hotmail server
after a period of time.

The big benefit IMHO of the yahoo groups is the ease of posting photos to
the group. Very helpful in explaining a problem or solution. Or even showing
off one's terrific workmanship to inspire folks like me ;-)

My own experience of hotmail (spam, no response to communications, 
refusal to close my account, etc) has been much worse than anything
