Interesting analysis from Fred on the statistical chances of spinal injury... If
you are
worried about smacking it, there are a couple of areas that need more urgent 
attention:
the first is that in most of the serious Europa accidents, the roll-over hoop 
collapses
- something that can be dealt with (and has been addressed in these pages)

More important, and much harder to deal with, is the fact that in a hard crash,
the
seatbelts will stretch an incredible amount - indeed, a friend of mine (who 
coincidently
crashed his RV6 badly) used to work for Penske, and said that they found even 
wide
strap
6 point harnesses (which he describes as essentially rigid when done up) will 
stretch
by
something like 30% in a serious accident. In some ways, this can be beneficial
- it
helps slow the decelleration - but the problem is contacting the glareshield and
things
like instrument knobs or switches.
