I think that we should nominate Andrew for a Nobel prize!! What a splendid
contribution to the Europaphile community! I'm especially grateful, since
a short time ago, I lost all of my carefully saved and filed messages when
my
computer crashed! With Andrew's index, there is no longer a need for each
and
all of us to save our relevant messages. Thanks, Andrew!!!

Subject: Searchable Maillist Archive is Online

For those who are interested in accessing past messages to this mailing
list,
I have placed the entire archive online. There are about 12,000 postings,
starting from July 1995. You can search by keyword, or browse through it in
a
threaded format.

These postings contain a lot of knowledge, experience and discussions that
are
valuable to everyone. I often search through them looking for certain
topics.
As the posting volume increases, I expect that a searchable index would
become
even more important. There were 30 messages in July '95 and 330 messages in
Jan '01.

Right now, the index is current as of Feb 28 '01. I will be updating the
index
at the end of every month. This means, you won't find the current month's
messages there. Sometime in the future I will try to automate this process
so
that new postings get indexed as they arrive.

Here is the address:

Let me know what you think of it.

For those who are curious, the threading software I am using is 'mhonarc'
and
the indexing is done with 'htdig'. This is running on my Linux server.
