Subject: Isaac Porat

I have today received a letter from Alison Porat written on Saturday,
and she has given me permission to pass relevant portions of it to
Isaac's online friends.

She is very thankful to all those who have expressed their support
for Isaac, herself, and their children, either directly by post or
through forwarded e-mails.

Isaac's injuries are so extensive that he is still heavily sedated.
All his limbs were fractured, and his face severely fractured - to
the extent that his left eye could not be saved. On the positive
side, the tests possible so far indicate that his spine, brain, and
major abdominal organs appear relatively undamaged.

The doctors told Alison on the day of the crash that Isaac was
unlikely to pull through. That either he or Graham survived even to
reach hospital was thanks to prompt and clear-headed action by those
early on the scene, for which Alison is extremely grateful.

Alison tells me that although Isaac is not fully conscious, he is
responding to things that she says to him in an encouraging way.
There are small signs of improvement, but there is a long way to go.

Visiting Isaac in a distant hospital, dealing with the many
individual enquiries after him by phone, and trying to maintain some
normal home life for 2 small children (Evie, 5 years, Lily, 19
months) leaves little time for issuing regular bulletins, but Alison
hopes to pass news of any important changes to me as her resources
permit. She says it has been "the hardest week of my life" but the
good wishes and other expression of help and support have enabled her
to avoid the desperation she feels would have overcome her. I admire
her courage and positive attitude. She has been helped to cope with
the situation by our support; I hope we will not fail her in the long
haul ahead.

I have no specific news of Graham today, but I think many of the
points above apply to him and his family too.

regards

Rowland
