I second Rob's suggestion.  I made up a template of aluminum foil, pressing it
into place in the closeout area, and cutting a slit in the foil where the plate
would go.  Then I traced around the template on the bid, making sure to also cut
the mark for the fabric slit. Then I gooped it all up.   It worked very nicely.
