During the construction of our Rotax 912 Europa we have developed several
techniques and premoulded parts that we feel would be of interest to Europa
builders. The object of the exercise is to simplify some of the more awkward
jobs and at the same time improve the overall quality of the aeroplane.

Wing Root Fillets.
With the wings rigged to the fuselage, the premoulded fillets are dressed to
fit the wing profile then floxed in place using waxed Clecos, pressing lightly
against the fuselage sides. After cure the inner layup onto the root rib is done
and the wings re rigged to retain the fit with the fuselage. The edges can
finally be trimmed and the fuselage filled back to match the wing fillet, giving
a near flush joint between wings and fuselage.

Outrigger Cuffs.
These are light fairings to streamline the outrigger mechanisms. Two of the
existing bolts are replaced with longer ones and these are then used to attach
the cuffs. Initial impressions are that there will be a measurable reduction in
drag and increase in speed and efficiency.

Moulded Firewall.
These replace the fabricated stainless steel firewall parts, which are difficult
to fit and do not protect the rudder cross tubes . Moulded from the same
phenolic resin as the main firewall, in two parts, the upper part is fitted
before the engine mount is attached to the undercarriage weldment. The lower
part can be fitted or removed with the engine in place.

Sternpost
Premoulded fin spar which allows accurate rigging of fin and rudder before final
layups. Use of the sternpost will greatly simplify fitting the fin and
rudder, at present an awkward job entailing location of several points in empty
space and hanging the rudder on a very floppy two ply layup.

Spinner Backplate.
Replacement for the somewhat flexible standard part. Pressure formed in a steel
mould and shaped to give inherent stiffness, carbon reinforced. Central hole
accurately cut 47mm diameter to fit Rotax propshaft central boss and drilled for
the six drive lugs. Check your boss size, some early ones were smaller I
believe. As yet we have no replacement for the front bulkhead; still thinking
about how to approach that one. L55

Instruments
---From time to time surplus instruments are aquired at good prices, electric
horizons in particular. New inverters are available, 3 phase 115v 400 Hz costing
