Hi all.
I have just finished mounting the TCU for the 914 - and would like to inform
about
my proceedings - after advice from Neville. The build manual does not mention
anything (strangely enough) about how to penetrate the firewall for these
units (TCU/turbo control unit).
According to Nev., any hole should be made with round corners - (preferably
round
holes), and the area on the rear side of the firewall should be strengthened
to restablish the strength taken away by cutting the hole. He suggested a
stainless
steel ring - 1.5 mm thick/25 mm wide - on which anchor nuts are installed,
and fastened with 525 screws/Araldite 420.
The hole should be cut as far away from the landing gear frame as possible - and
not in the center.
I made up my cover plate from firewall cut-off and bolted it together with the
steel-ring to the firewall edge - using Araldite 420. Looks very solid!
Cheers,
