This is a safety option incorporated in most modern radios(with built-in 
intercoms)
and standalone audio. The marketing blather usually calls 
it Radio Priority or Auto-Mute. Depending on manufacturer, it can be 
disabled by a switch, by a jumper on the rear connector, or some other 
imaginative,
inconvenient technique.
