The only explanation I can think of for the ineffectiveness of the Thermostasis
thermostat is that the resistance to flow of the oil cooler is so low that the
open thermostat valve passes very little oil.  Thus there would be little or
no bypass effect when the thermostat is cold.

One solution to this would be to increase the resistance of the cooler circuit,
which is anyway providing too much cooling.  Would it be permissable to insert
a flow restrictor into the cooler hose, and if so, how small?
