Hi Danny

I don't know if this would cause the symptoms, but have you got the
connections to the oil tank the right way round?  It's very easy to connect
them outlet to the inlet and vice versa! I did it when fitting an oil
thermostat but picked it up before starting.  It sounds like you have had a
head of oil draining back into the engine.

First thing.

When you refilled the engine did you follow the procedure to get oil round
the engine, cooler and filter before starting or just fill the oil tank and
then start.
