Graeme,
I was told to put some high-temp RTV Silicone gasket maker by Permeatex on the
springs between the wires to absorb the shaking. Haven't had a problem with
them.
Don't know if it was due to the above application however they are still
attached.
I also lock wire the to the muffler to avoid the departure.
