Europa-List: fuel tank question

I am returning an early Europa(pre 2000) back to service. It has been sitting 
with
an empty fuel tank for a number of years. I've been reading the postings on
swelling and cracking problems with the older tanks.  Does anyone have any 
suggestions/precautions
I could take prior to putting fuel back in it that might
help prevent these issues ?
