Yep. My ELT can only work with a remote whip. I installed it behind the
D-panel. Inside the airplane of course. You don't need a real ground
panel, I used a perforated alu strip for that, running to the rear of
the aircraft.

Do not do this if you have the COM antenna in the tail! The ELT antenna
is still supposed to transmit a 121.5 homing signal, and is therefore
tuned in the COM band. With such a close proximity to the other COM
antenna, you can expect all kinds of problems for your COM unit, even if
the ELT is not active. I can explain them if you want, but it is
probably enough if I just warn you to keep a healty distance between the
two antenna's. The D-panel is a good location.
