Franz,

I put my lock in because of airshows and non-home airport stays.

At Sun n Fun, there can be 50,000 non-pilots wandering the flightline with 
little
supervision.
Some thefts of opportunity can clearly be prevented.

Of course, locks don't prevent the damage done by kids running amongst the 
aircraft
or by smoking either.
