| To those that were so easily offended by the posting, my apologies. To be
| quite honest that posting was supposed to go to the RV-list only. It just
| so happens that I didn't take the time to sort the recipients as well as I
| should have.
| However, let me say this... I have been in business for three years and
| this is only the second posting (business related) I have placed to the
| list. A commercial benefit is questionable since I am offering these at
| cost, but doesn't the person who buys one benefit from the savings?
| Ultimately, that is you, the builder.
| Please, please ignore my previous posting. | Fabian

Fabian,
It is obvious from the reaction [both pro and con] that it is no
minor consideration for the most of us. Obviously, as Matt has clearly
pointed out there is a line and we are discussing where that line
sits...........
If the line is excessively permissive, who is going to permit all
sorts of snake oil hawkers to pervert the language and waste our time? On
the other hand if those curious as to availability have no source then
correct contact is lost and the trade serves no one........
The line in magazines and newspapers is obviously no longer
discernible. It requires an 'advertisement' word on top to tell you the
hawkers are mimicking news pages - with the hope that only the stupid will
assume the nonsense to be valid. Our local town paper is now about 90% ads
and we have cancelled - but in desparation they keep delivering for 'free' -
the trees pay the price of this.
In ham radio the same pressure applies - ham papers will publish the
AVAILABILITY of items (fleamarkets are rife) but will not tolerate price or
incentives - at least ours are so.
It is the FORM of the item that draws the line. Stating the
circumstances and the availability should be sufficient to attract the
curious to the source. They are then participants in the snake oil and not
victims. I believe the line should be drawn there. If I want a
CharBlazer402, I should look up the URL and be prepared to scan a full page
of expletives to acquire one. If I don't, I should be spared the flotsam -
or regretfully leave the list.
I believe that was the gist of the originator's complaint, and to
that extent I agree. IMHO Matt has also a valid point but only in this
context.
Yours for verbal intercourse.......
Ferg
