Carb. Balancing

Further to Carl Pattinson's excellent posting of the 14th November last, I can
confirm that balancing can be done using nothing more sophisticated than a
length
of tube (as supplied for the instruments). I used about 12 yards to make a
crude water manometer. With the aircraft on it's trailer and the wings removed
I parked close to a wall on which I suspended the tube. It was then possible
to view the variation in levels from the cockpit throughout the full throttle
range.
Having achieved a good balance using the procedure described by Carl it was
interesting
to note the out-of balance which occurs during changes in throttle setting.
I don't suppose there is much that can be done about this other than to
note that slow changes cause less imbalance.
Thanks Carl.
    Roger.
