Hi all,

Just to pass on waht I have learnt, in the hope that it helps others;

Having recently bought Europa Mono G-BVVP, the paintwork was in a poor state so
I needed to recover it. One wing in particular had a finish that was smooth but
matt. I sought advice from a classic car coachwork specialist, and the first
question was 'is it 2-pack?' Apparently the way to tell is to try cutting paste
on a small area; if the colour comes off on the cloth, it is not 2 pack.

If it IS 2-pack, as mine was, then the huge no-no is 'T-cut'. This contains
Ammonia
which helps with cellulose finishes, but on 2-pack all it does is make the
finish matt. This is what had happened to one of my wings.

The way to restore 2 pack is to use Farecla G3 cutting compound, either by hand
or machine (1800 rpm max with a sponge pad and keep it wet with a mist spray).
Then clean it all off and buff to gloss either by hand, or preferably by machine
with a lambswool mop. Then you can apply (by hand) a 3M 'hand finish glaze'
to get that really glossy wet look. Then polish (with UV protection) and, if
you want, hand glaze.

Do not use T-cut! The Farecla G3 is so good I have thrown all my T cut away,
just
to prevent any accidents. If you live in the Southern UK, you can get the G3
and the 3M Hand Glaze from Waregrain Coatings in Southampton.

Ian & G-BVVP.
