Know the feeling well. I an using the EIS engine monitor and the only VDO
instrument
is an ammeter. Yesterday after taking the panel off the on for the fifth
time I ran the engine for the first time. It started easily and ran smooth.
Problems are that the tach in the EIS does not read and the ammeter does not
show charge though the alternator is generating enough current to at least run
the fuel pump. I have found the instruments the most problem on the entire
project. There are just tooooo many wires!!!
I also agree with Tony about the finish. Have used Top Gloss and find that
getting
a first class finish requires lots of sanding and buffing. I may settle
for less than show quality. Building the plane has been satisfying and fun.
The finishing details are a drag for me.

Can someone please confirm the correct VDO engine instrument connections.

There 3 connections looking from the rear of the instrument.

  9 o'clock ---- possibly +ve.
  6 o'clock ---- perhaps -ve.
  3 o'clock ---- perhaps 'S' for sensor.
