Rotax has release Service Bulletin SB-914-015 - Checking or Replacement of
the Exhaust Muffler of Reduced Noise Emission Part No. 979 405 For Rotax
Engine Type 914 F
THIS SERVICE BULLETIN APPLIES ONLY TO CERTIFIED ROTAX 914F ENGINES EQUIPPED
WITH THE OPTIONAL REDUCED NOISE EMISSION EXHAUST PACKAGE.
THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS MANDATORY.
Summary of Service Instructions:
This general summary is not intended to replace the information provided in
the service bulletin documents.
SB-914-015 calls for the immediate inspection of the muffler used on Rotax
914 F engines equipped with the optional Reduced Noise Emission exhaust
package (Rotax part # 979 405) for cracks.
Operators and maintenance personnel should consult the aircraft
documentation or contact the aircraft manufacturer to determine if the
Reduced Noise Emission exhaust package is installed on a particular
aircraft.
Operators and maintenance personnel can also identify 914F engines equipped
with the Reduced Noise Emission (R.N.E.) exhaust package by the overall
length of the muffler.
The R.N.E. muffler is shorter than the standard 914F muffler. The R.N.E.
muffler measures 264.7 mm (10.42 in.) from the turbo mounting plate to the
tip of the exhaust outlet.
The standard 914F muffler measures 313 mm (12.32 in.) from the turbo
mounting plate to the tip of the exhaust outlet.
These measurements assume that the exhaust outlet has not been lengthened
or shortened by the aircraft manufacturer.
SB-914-015 supercedes Alert Service Bulletin ASB-914-015. Alert Service
Bulletin ASB-914-015 is now cancelled.
