and battery location you ended up with.>>

Terry,
I would advise leaving the final battery position until after painting and
weighing. This might be a pain, but can ultimately give you the ideal empty
cofg position, and only take a couple of days extra work before flying starts.
I'd recommend that when you weigh the plane, have a pc/palmtop to hand and
enter the figures in a spreadsheet there and then. Work out empty cofg with
the battery aft of the cockpit module and some appropriate size AWG cable
laid to the battery, and on the front of the firewall with obviously no AWG
cable to the back, then experiment with weights of pilot, passenger, fuel and
baggage for both configurations.
One of the positions will give you a better laden cofg than the other for
all positions. When you've worked it out, finally install the battery and
cables.
There can be a lot of variablity, eg g-bxum weighs about 10 pounds more in
total than g-bxhy, but there is 10 pounds less weight on 'UM's tailwheel than
'HY's - must be less filler and paint I suppose.
Each europa will be different, there are 'recommended' battery positions
and the 'right one' for your plane.

chus,
dave
