Cheers,
I see some gabble about SWR meters and agree with all said. The hams
say " dollar for dollar, antennas are worth ten times the power". There
is no question that an aerial 'cut' to the correct length to resonate on
the desired band is far more effective than doubling the power output -
and an SWR meter can show how. But there is another device more useful
yet - the Antenna Analyser, which will show you the exact values of your
aerial whether for receiving or sending - and requires no transmitter
(as does the SWR gauge).
I say again, try to establish contact with the local Amateur Radio
Club. Chances are someone will have an analyser and be willing to
measure (and/or adjust) your aerial for successful transmitting (and
thus usually, receiving). The RSGB/ARRL/RAC can give you the address of
your local club. If they are anything like our city club, someone will
be interested to see your machine and measure for you. It happens here
all the time. There is a kinship twixt hamming and flying (and sailing).
Happy Landings,
