Marshal Papworth

Subject: Marshal Papworth

The Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Marshal Papworth was held at
Ramsey yesterday. The large church was packed, showing the great depth
of feeling for this 60 year-old man who had spent his whole life in the
local area.

The Address paid tribute to his work in and for the community, and expanded
on his love of flying. Marshal had been gliding for 20 years, and took up
powered flying 4 years ago. Although his life was tragically cut short, he
died doing what he loved most.

Marshal left a lasting impression on all those who met him. In due course,
the results of the investigation into his accident will be published. There
will undoubtedly be lessons which can be learned from his misfortune -- the
best way we can remember Marshal in the longer term will be to apply these
lessons to help others as well as ourselves to improve safety.
