Thanks for the input Ken, yours is the sort of experience needing to be 
heard before any of us go charging off into unknown territory.
Another idea: what about modifying the tank outlet to take 2 AN fittings, 
one which would be the normal straight fuel line fitting for aluminum 
lines, AN 816-2D, the other an elbow, AN 914-1D which would screw straight 
into the tank fitting and point down, the drain valve would screw into the 
female end of the elbow.
A tube extension of the AN 914 into the tank as per the Europa mod would 
collect the water from the back
