Access Doors ??

The engine access doors as I have installed them open only about 100 degrees
when the hinged edge contacts the cowl preventing further opening. Is this
normal or do I need to remove more material on each side of the hinges? The
gap either side of the hinges is wider than the gap on the other sides
already so removing more material will emphasize this difference but perhaps
this would be more useful in practice?

Due to the restricted opening angle, the access doors do not stay open unless
held. Would it have been better to put the hinge on the port side so that
gravity would hold the door open for cooling after engine stop?

Is the door for access to the water expansion tank cap useful in practice?
The overflow bottle is mounted above the port footwell where it can be
observed through the oil access door. Should the water level drop, won't it
first be signaled by a change in the overflow bottle's level? When water
must be added, it seems that would indicate an overall engine inspection is
needed, requiring cowl removal anyway.
