Re: the solenoid lockpin for the main gear. Most machines I've seen with
a pin-in-the-hole lock like you propose simply have a ramp or plate to keep them
compressed through the travel where you wouldn't really want them to engage (ie.
gear up) leading to the hole they engage when you do want them to lock. Then the
only override you would need would be for maintenance on the u/c (perhaps with
your spar stub/supports in place instead of wings).
