Paul, I painted the spar and root ribs. They dont need anything more than a simple rub down to ensure good bonding and a coat of primer and top coat.

Mike, If the NACA vents have an adjustable flap they are meant to be fitted forward of the door opening and roughly 3 inches below the fuse join line, although I have seen them in varying positions.
