Try checking the preload setting of the vibration-isolator in the gearbox; this doesn`t need disassembly. A clue to this being incorrect is often difficulty in starting. Duncan McFadyean

The gas struts are a pain, literally. The sockets tend to slip off the balls in hot weather too. Has anyone found an alternative? e.g. the like the "ratchet" stays that were once used on car bonnets
