If it makes sense for the ailerons (and it does), it would also seem to make sense on the rudder hinges, which is just where I am now. Did you just apply a light edge coat of flox for light bonding,

My vote also goes to letting it sit somewhat more off the rudder than may have been planned. I did almost the exact same thing. I believe there is no strength involved in the closer fit--perhaps just
